President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) praised President‑elect Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, noting that Tinubu turns 71 today (Wednesday). In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, titled “President Buhari hails President‑Elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at 71,” Buhari highlighted Tinubu’s “friendliness and generosity,” saying these traits will shape his presidency when he assumes office in two months.

Buhari said Asiwaju’s warmth, friendliness and generosity have created a network of friends both at home and abroad, which will provide the expertise needed to guide the economy and build on the investments of past leaders. He emphasized a focus on people‑first development and infrastructure.

As the President‑elect prepares to take over the mantle of leadership at 71, Buhari affirmed that Tinubu’s political pedigree—from his involvement in 1990s politics, his active role in party affairs, his election as Senator, and later as Governor of Lagos State—along with his long‑standing experience in both executive and legislative leadership, will serve as an asset for good and effective governance.
