Cape Town — South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs has extended the blanket concession for long‑term visa or waiver applicants who are awaiting decisions on their applications until the end of December 2023. This means that such applicants may remain legally in the country until 31 December 2023 while their cases are being finalized.

Applicants traveling on passports from countries that are not visa‑exempt must apply for a visitor’s visa in order to return to South Africa until their long‑term applications are completed. The concession applies only to those who submitted their applications through visa facilitation centres on or before 31 March 2023.

Short‑term visitors whose visas are valid for less than 90 days are excluded from the concession. They must leave the country on or before the expiry date of their visas, according to the Home Affairs statement.
