The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ekiti State, Prof. Ayobami Salami, announced on Thursday that the commission is prepared for a peaceful and smooth conclusion of the inconclusive election in Ido/Osi State Constituency 1, located in the Ido/Osi Council area. “The inconclusive election will be concluded on April 15,” Salami said. “We only have three polling units in the constituency, so the task should not be too challenging. We are ready to conduct the election on that date.” While presenting Certificates of Return to 25 newly elected members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly in Ado Ekiti, Salami appealed to all stakeholders in Ido/Osi Constituency 1 to cooperate with INEC and security agencies to ensure a successful outcome. “We need the support and collaboration of political parties, civil‑society organizations, and security agencies,” he added.
Salami noted that the March 18 election for the Ekiti State House of Assembly had been very peaceful. “On Thursday we issued Certificates of Return to 25 members‑elect of the House of Assembly,” he said, confirming that the poll to elect the 26th member will be completed on April 15.
Among the lawmakers‑elect, Adeoye Aribasoye, Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Media and Publicity (All Progressives Congress, Ikole II), expressed gratitude for being re‑elected and pledged not to disappoint the state. “My return to the Assembly is based on experience in lawmaking, oversight, and monitoring government activities and projects in my constituency. We will work with the executive to improve the lives of Ekiti people,” he said.
Babatunde Omotayo, a newly elected member from the Social Democratic Party (Ise/Orun), also spoke about his intentions. “I am not going to the House to form the opposition; I am going there to defend the interests of my people. I will work with my colleagues to pass good laws and protect my constituents,” he affirmed.
