Tanzania has welcomed the U.S. government’s decision to review its visa agreement, which would allow longer stays for U.S. citizens and Tanzanian non‑citizens, President Samia Suluhu Hassan said on Thursday in Dar es Salaam. Speaking to visiting U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris at the State House, President Samia said the plan will facilitate the movement of people and goods, further improving investment, trade and tourism.

“Tanzania welcomes the U.S. initiative to review its visa policy,” President Samia added, without providing further details. The two leaders met briefly at the State House before addressing the press and were scheduled for more extensive discussions later in the day. Vice President Harris did not elaborate on the travel document changes but indicated that “we will discuss so much” during their upcoming talks.

President Samia told reporters that the new visa development will benefit both Tanzania and the United States. To date, Tanzania and the U.S. have signed several memoranda of understanding to strengthen bilateral ties in trade, ports and information technology (ICT).
