The Ondo State First Lady, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu‑Akeredolu, urged women to embrace information and communication technology, as well as other life‑enhancing skills, for their self‑development. She delivered this message at the grand finale of this year’s International Women’s Day, held in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday. The program was organized by her office in collaboration with the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
Scores of women from across the 18 local government areas participated in the event. Pregnant attendees received kits to help them start their own businesses. In her remarks, Mrs. Akeredolu said, “I listened to presentations from young people around the world about the need to expand digital literacy and skills to include everyone, regardless of who you are, where you live, or whom you love. The world has gone digital in all spheres of life, creating many job opportunities. Women and girls must not be left behind.”
The First Lady also called on women to train the boy‑child to be responsible, explaining that well‑trained boys will grow into good men, helping to create a society free of vices.
State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Julianna Osadahun, noted that the conference theme—“Digit All: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”—addressed the many gender‑related challenges women and girls face in information and communication technology. She highlighted the importance of finding solutions to indigenous women’s territorial battles, expanding opportunities for women entrepreneurs, and financing initiatives that support women’s entrepreneurship. Mrs. Osadahun also expressed appreciation to the state government for its support of women in Ondo State.
