The Director General of Aishatu Ahmed (Binani)’s governorship campaign council, Senator Ahmed Barata, has been suspended by the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward executives for Ketembere, located in Shelleng Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The ward executive members announced the suspension on Friday, citing alleged anti‑party activities and the withholding of relief food items that Binani had sent to party faithful before the elections.

The Adamawa APC has recently issued a series of suspension orders against several prominent and influential members at the ward level. The most notable case involved Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who was suspended by ward executives in his Gwadabawa ward. This action prompted sanctions from the State Working Committee, resulting in the sacking and indefinite suspension of the offending ward officials.

A letter addressed to Barata, made available to journalists in Yola, is dated March 30 and titled “Suspension from being a member of All Progressives Congress.” Signed by Iliyasu Mohammed and 26 other members, the letter lists several infractions allegedly committed by Barata, including his refusal to distribute food items donated by Binani prior to the governorship election held on March 18. The resolution to suspend Barata was taken during the ward executive meeting on March 27, 2023.

The letter states: “With due regard to all relevant sections of Article 21 of the All Progressives Congress Constitution, 2022 (as amended), which empowers the ward executive committee to take disciplinary measures against any erring member irrespective of status, we, the exco members of this ward, have resolved in our March 27, 2023 meeting to suspend you (Barata) on the following grounds: anti‑party activities during the March 18 governorship and House of Assembly elections; impersonation of the party by appointing agents in the same elections; being a principal actor in causing a crisis at the polling unit between party agents and those you sent; and withholding relief food items sent to party faithful before the election by the APC governorship candidate, Distinguished Senator Aisha Ahmed Binani.”

The statement further promises to inform all relevant authorities, including party organs at the zonal and state levels, security agencies, and the public, of Senator Barata’s suspension at the ward level.
