Justice Adolphus Enebeli, a jurist of the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt, has retired from the bench. He was widely known for sentencing Gracious David‑West, a 40‑year‑old man accused of serially killing women in hotels across the state, to death. David‑West faced charges for the 2020 murders of several young women, whom he allegedly strangled to death in various Port Harcourt hotels.

A valedictory court session honoring Justice Enebeli was held on Friday at the Chief Judge’s Ceremonial Court of the Rivers State High Court. The ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the state governor, Nyesom Wike. Governor Wike praised Enebeli as a courageous and committed judge, noting that “when somebody is committed to his job and courageous, some of us will always identify with such a person and give them the necessary support. It is not everybody that is committed to their job. It is not everybody that is courageous to do things that most people run away from.” He added that, as the Chief Judge remarked, Justice Enebeli “has never returned any case assigned to him,” emphasizing the judge’s dedication in contrast to those who seek excuses and avoid their responsibilities.
