The Federal Capital Territory Senator‑elect, Ireti Kingibe, has pledged to continue the legacies of outgoing Senator Philip Aduda, despite their political differences. Elected on the Labour Party platform, Kingibe assured residents that she would serve all constituents. She made the statement at a media conference thanking FCT voters for electing her during the presidential elections held on February 25.

Kingibe said, “The FCT has had several senators before me, and each has contributed to making the FCT what it is today. My predecessor gave his best to the FCT over the past 12 years, and I thank him. I want him to know that I am willing to continue his work from wherever he left off.” She added that she would reach out to other candidates, emphasizing that the effort is not personal. “If we all join hands, we can take the FCT to places it has never been before. I am ready to work with everyone, irrespective of the political parties they represent. I will consider their ideas and collaborate on their initiatives. I want all of them to see me as their senator, without the attitude of ‘she is opposition or not in my party.’ I am a senator for everybody, regardless of party.”

Kingibe called on all political parties in the FCT to view the territory as a “mother for states” across the country. She affirmed, “When needs arise, we will open opportunities to everyone and aim to appoint the most qualified persons, regardless of their background.”

Reflecting on her political journey, Kingibe recounted, “When I started in 2003, I knew nothing about politics; I was on the sidelines while my husband ran for various offices. When I decided to contest, some remarkable women supported me in different ways.” She also praised former FCT Senator Khairat Abdulrazaq‑Gwadabe and the late Maryam Babangida, and acknowledged Jumai Aduda, the mother of the current FCT senator, as someone who helped make her path smoother.
