A man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was removed from an Abuja‑to‑Lagos flight on Friday evening. The middle‑aged lone protester announced that President‑elect Bola Tinubu should never be sworn in on May 29. In video obtained by our correspondent, it took the effort of at least six airport security officers to evacuate him after he held up the aircraft for more than an hour; the 6 p.m. flight had not yet moved by 7 p.m. While being carried off the aisle, the man shouted, “Obidients you’re here. They are doing this to me. Obidients you’re here, I am naked. Obidients you’re here, I am going naked.” Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria officials and Ibom Air staff surrounded him, preventing anyone else from approaching.
On Thursday, the Department of State Services (DSS) reported that it had identified unnamed individuals planning to establish an interim government in Nigeria. Describing the scheme as an aberration, the DSS warned that it would undermine civil rule and plunge the country into an avoidable crisis, according to a statement by spokesperson Peter Afunanya.
On Friday, the 36 state governors, acting through the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), urged the DSS to urgently arrest and prosecute those involved in the plot to replace the nation’s democratic system with an interim government. The NGF cautioned the DSS against issuing statements without making arrests, saying such behavior could further inflame the political situation. The forum’s chairman, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, made these remarks in a statement released on Friday.
