On 1 April 2023, at the O₂ Arena in London, England, Anthony Joshua faced Jermaine Franklin in a heavyweight bout. In the opening moments, Joshua landed an uppercut, but Franklin responded with a straight punch of his own. Franklin’s counter‑uppercut unsettled Joshua, who immediately clinched the American. The two fighters continued to trade blows in the center of the ring, with Joshua delivering two rapid jabs that, however, were insufficient to knock Franklin down.
As the round progressed, Joshua pressed forward, attempting to free his arms, when Franklin landed a decisive uppercut followed by a powerful right hand. A massive straight right from Franklin ultimately gave him the edge, and Joshua lost the round with a score of 109‑100 in his favor.
