Students at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), gathered for an event organized by the university’s Students’ Union, during which seventeen indigent students were awarded scholarships. The ceremony, titled “Financial Independence: A Creative and Innovative Mind,” took place on March 31, 2023, in Oduduwa Hall.
Joy Abiola, the Financial Secretary of the union, explained that the event aimed to equip students with the skills necessary for financial liberation both during their time on campus and beyond. The scholarships will cover the school fees for the 2022/23 session for the selected beneficiaries from across all faculties.
Keynote speakers included Mrs. Oluneye Oluwole, an international author, serial entrepreneur, and Co‑Founder of Dukiya Investment, as well as Mr. Lukman Shobowale. Panelists such as Mrs. Oluseinde Oluwatosin, Mr. Daniel Otabor, Mr. Promise Isaac, Mr. Anozie Fortunate, Mr. Franklin Peters, Mrs. Opeyemi Oluwafisayomi, and JoshOfLagos emphasized that anyone can achieve financial independence through consistent effort.
During the event, seventeen scholarships were distributed: ten were presented by Mr. Lukman Shobowale, five by Mr. Wole Fapohunda, and two by Gideon Ajose. Joy Abiola also praised the contributions of partners Ogbuehi Dillion, Anifat Oyedele, Olufemi Joshua, and Osunromade John, whose support helped ensure the event’s success.
