Journalist Osasu Obayiuwana reports that Nigerian tech entrepreneur and billionaire Dozy Mmobuosi remains determined to acquire English Championship club Sheffield United. The 43‑year‑old businessman submitted a £90 million bid after holding talks with the current owner, Prince Abdullah, last year. Although the proposal was announced publicly, discussions stalled when Mmobuosi felt the takeover process was subjected to excessive scrutiny.

Despite the setbacks, the deal appears likely to proceed. Mmobuosi has indicated his willingness to provide the information required to satisfy the English Football League’s inquiries. “While I have to respect the fact that the conversation was off the record, he insists—and I am sure he doesn’t mind me saying this—that the deal is going ahead and he will be able to answer, satisfactorily, the pending questions the EFL asked him,” Obayiuwana wrote in a tweet.

Speaking on a podcast with former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand, Mmobuosi explained his personal connection to Sheffield United. He said the club is the only team he supports, drawn by the energy of the city’s fans, and that he envisions owning the club he loves. “I am now a fan of this club. I told my wife a couple of years ago that maybe one day when I get involved in soccer, I will only get to support the club I own. The only team I ever supported is the Super Eagles and I still support them to date—that’s my national team,” he said.

Sheffield United currently sit second in the Championship, positioned well for promotion to the Premier League with 73 points from 38 games.
