Zimbabwe ranked 134th out of 137 nations in the latest World Happiness Report, placing it near the bottom of the list. The report, which evaluates countries based on gross domestic product per capita, social support, life expectancy, freedom of choice, generosity, and perceived corruption, shows Zimbabwe just ahead of Afghanistan (137th), Lebanon (136th), Sierra Leone (135th) and behind the Democratic Republic of Congo (133rd).
European nations dominated the top twenty positions, with fifteen European countries featured. Finland was named the happiest country in the world for the sixth consecutive year, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Israel and the Netherlands in the top five for 2023. New Zealand ranked 10th, Australia 12th, and the United Kingdom secured 19th place, edging out Lithuania. Among the non‑European nations in the top twenty were Israel (4th), New Zealand (10th), Australia (12th), Canada (13th) and the United States (15th).
The World Happiness Report has been published for over a decade, coinciding with the ten‑year anniversary of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 66/281, which designated March 20 as International Day of Happiness.
