Nairobi — Safaricom customers are set to enjoy cheaper Wi‑Fi routers after the telco cut prices by nearly half. Huawei’s fourth‑generation (4G) Wi‑Fi router will now retail for up to 40 percent less, dropping from Sh10,999 to Sh6,999. Adrian routers will also see a price reduction, now costing Sh9,999 instead of the previous Sh5,999. Safaricom says the price cuts are intended to boost home internet connectivity across the country.
“This end month, jibambe na 4G Wi‑Fi! Enjoy a 40 % price drop on Safaricom 4G Wi‑Fi routers and indulge in the online experiences you love,” the company posted on its Facebook page. The routers can be purchased directly through the MySafaricom app, Safaricom shops, authorized dealers, or via a USSD code. Each router comes with 30 GB of free data for a period of 30 days.
Last year, Safaricom rolled out 5G networks in five counties—Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisii, Kakamega, and Kisumu—enabling customers to access faster internet speeds. With 35 active 5G sites across those locations, users can download, stream, and play video at significantly higher speeds than 4G. Plans are also underway to introduce 5G data packages for mobile internet customers and to use the Lipa Mdogo Mdogo device‑financing solution to make more affordable 5G smartphones available.
