The Lagos High Court, sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island, has dismissed a “no‑case submission” filed by the suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Drambi Vandi. Vandi is accused of killing Lagos‑based lawyer Omobolanle Raheem on 25 December 2022. Justice Ibironke Harrison ordered on Monday that the defendant must open his defence, finding that a prima facie case has been established against him.

In his application for a no‑case submission, Vandi asked the court to dismiss the suit and discharge him, claiming there was no case to answer. Defence counsel Adetokunbo Odutola argued that none of the eyewitnesses saw the defendant fire the weapon and that the ballistic report expressly stated the bullet could not be linked to any firearms recovered from police officers at the scene. Odutola also highlighted a discrepancy between the pathologist’s testimony—that the bullet entered from the left through the armpit—and the prosecution’s claim that the deceased was shot in the chest.

The prosecution, led by the Attorney General of Lagos State, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), countered these arguments and urged the defendant to present his defence, insisting that the prosecution had successfully made its case against him.
