Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered the closure of Tower Primary School in Oba over alleged involvement in examination malpractice during the 2023 Transition Placement Examination. The decision was announced by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma‑Udeh, following a meeting to investigate misconduct involving a Parent‑Teacher Association (PTA) teacher, Precious Chibuzo, who invigilated the exam at Umuogali Community Primary School, Oba.

According to a statement from the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Nnaemeka Egwuonwu, an investigation prompted by reports from pupils of Triumphant Cross School, Oba, revealed that the proprietress of Tower Academy, Kosisochukwu Igwe, colluded with the PTA teacher. The proprietress allegedly sneaked into the examination hall, photographed the question paper, solved the questions and supplied the answers to candidates. Both Igwe and Chibuzo admitted to the offence; Igwe pleaded for forgiveness, while Chibuzo has been dismissed from the school.

Commissioner Chuma‑Udeh has directed a resit of the examination for all candidates involved. The resit, to be personally supervised by the commissioner, is scheduled for Tuesday, 4 April 2023. Tower Primary School, Oba, will remain closed until further notice, and the dismissed PTA teacher, Precious Chibuzo, is barred from the premises.

In recognition of the students from Triumphant Cross School, Oba, who reported the malpractice, the state government has awarded them. The commissioner announced the reward on Monday.
