The residents of Uso Community in Owo Local Government Area, Ondo State, have appealed to the state government to repair or reconstruct the Uso/Ise Ekiti Road, arguing that its restoration would boost the local economy. According to community members, the road has been abandoned for the past 44 years, leaving the agrarian population with serious difficulties in moving farm produce to market.

Speaking on behalf of the community on Monday, leader Mr. Akintola Adeoye explained that a functional road would ease the transport of agricultural goods and improve the economic life of the people. He noted that erosion has washed away the road, making it impassable and forcing vehicle owners to park at the community’s entrance, where their cars are vulnerable to theft and vandalism. “We need the help of both the state and local governments to reconstruct the road linking our community to neighboring towns,” he said.

Adeoye emphasized that a well‑reconstructed road would benefit not only local farmers but also commuters traveling to Abuja and other northern parts of the country. “The road is the shortest route for travellers from Akure to the northern part of Nigeria, avoiding the longer passage through Akoko land,” he added. “It would open up economic interaction between Ondo State and Ekiti State along this axis.”

The community leader called on the Federal Government to extend its Rural Road Transformation policy to include the Uso/Ise Ekiti Road, stressing that a good road network is essential for any community’s development. “We are begging the government to act, because the condition of our roads is too bad and we need intervention to make life bearable for the residents,” he concluded.
