Sebokeng Hospital has performed its first brain surgeries in 40 years, treating two patients with subdural haemotoma, TimesLive reports. The milestone was made possible by the recent establishment of a neurosurgery unit at the hospital; previously, such cases were referred to Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto. Both patients recovered well and were discharged to be with their families. The Gauteng Department of Health said the new unit will reduce the high mortality and morbidity rates among traumatic brain‑injury patients in the Sedibeng district.
