Ekiti APC governorship candidate Biodun Oyebanji’s administration reaffirmed its commitment on Tuesday to reducing youth unemployment in the state through targeted initiatives and existing empowerment programmes. Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Special Duties, Olufemi Aduloju, emphasized that the Oyebanji administration “is doing everything humanly possible to see that unemployed youths in the state are empowered.”
Speaking in Ado‑Ekiti, the state capital, Aduloju led a delegation of students and youth bodies—including the Nigeria Youth Congress and the National Youth Council of Nigeria—to meet the state coordinator of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mr. Sanusi Hakeem. He urged the NDE to extend opportunities to youths through its programmes, complementing the state government’s efforts.
The governor’s aide explained that the visit aimed to secure the agency’s assistance in ensuring Ekiti youths benefit more from upcoming NDE initiatives, particularly in employment and empowerment. “Governor Oyebanji knows the value of youths and does not joke with their welfare. His administration is determined to reduce unemployment among our youths to the barest minimum. This is part of his six‑point agenda,” Aduloju said. “That is why we are calling on you, NDE, to enable our youths to benefit from various empowerment programmes and employment opportunities that will be coming from your agency.”
In response, the NDE coordinator assured the youths of forthcoming opportunities, stating, “We are ready to collaborate with the state government to ensure that unemployment rates are brought down among our youths. The purpose of this agency is to provide employment for the unemployed.” He highlighted several agency programmes aimed at creating opportunities for the state’s unemployed, including vocational development skills, special public works, and small‑scale enterprises.
