The Group Chairman of United Bank for Africa and Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu, has advocated for private‑public partnerships as a driver of Africa’s growth. In a statement released by UBA after Elumelu’s visit to Zambia at the invitation of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, he welcomed the heightened engagement of the U.S. administration with the continent. He emphasized that such partnerships should be founded on equity and mutual respect.
Elumelu, one of Africa’s leading entrepreneurs, highlighted the shared values between the entrepreneurially driven U.S. economy and the opportunities in Africa. He noted the importance of creating an enabling environment that supports Africa’s highly entrepreneurial youth. A staunch proponent of Africapitalism, Elumelu believes that Africa’s economic renaissance will be catalyzed by collaboration between the public and private sectors, with the private sector delivering both social good and economic wealth.
The statement also noted that Elumelu joined other global leaders at the inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee for the United States Government’s “Gender Inclusion in the Digital Economy” initiative, held in Lusaka, Zambia.
