The Lagos State House of Assembly summoned a senior aide to Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu and a state commissioner on Tuesday over allegations that they failed to present contracts to the House for ratification before execution. The summons followed a “Matter of Urgent Public Importance” raised by APC lawmaker Nureni Akinsanya (Mushin I), who warned that the governor’s officials had disregarded state law by entering into public‑private partnership (PPP) agreements without the required legislative approval.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the officials called to appear are Ope George, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Public‑Private Partnerships, and Bamgbose Martins, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development. They are expected to provide legislators with details explaining why they did not seek ratification before signing the contracts.
Akinsanya urged the House to address what he described as a flagrant disregard for contractual procedures, citing several PPP agreements allegedly concluded by the governor’s aide and commissioner without due process. He called for an immediate halt to all such contracts until the law is enforced. “I am calling on the House to invite the commissioner and other concerned agencies for questioning,” he said.
APC representatives Rotimi Olowo (Shomolu I) and Temitope Adewale (Ifako‑Ijaiye I) echoed the call for scrutiny, insisting that the officers and contractors appear before the Assembly. Adewale emphasized that ratification by the House serves the people and the state, and that approving contracts without legislative review demonstrates a blatant disregard for the rule of law.
Deputy Speaker Wasiu Eshinlokun‑Sanni (Lagos Island I), who presided over the plenary, ordered the summons, stating that it would provide the Assembly with the necessary information to obtain a clearer picture and prevent further irregularities.
