Former deputy general director at FC Spartak Moscow, Vladimir Kuzmichev, has given the nod for former Nigerian international and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner Victor Moses to spearhead the Red and Whites attack following an injury to Quincy Promes.
The former Chelsea player, who recently returned to competitive football after seven months on the sidelines due to injury, will be making his first league start when Spartak Moscow host Dynamo Moscow on Saturday in the Russian Premier League.
“Of course, Promes is one of the brightest players of Spartak, on the other hand, Moses has already started getting playing time. He should in this situation take over the duties of Promes,” Kuzmichev told RB Sport as quoted by Sportbox.ru
Kuzmichev is confident the Nigerian striker will be a key player in Spartak noting that Mosess played a key role for the team before his injury and charged him to take the leadership role at the club.
“We saw what he looked like before the injury. Then he sharpened and scored. During Quincy’s absence, Moses must take over as the offensive leader.”
The ex-Crystal Palace youth player recently took to social media to express his delight at returning to competitive football after seven months.
“Difficult game today but a well-earned point. On a personal note, I am delighted to return to the team today after seven months out. Thanks to everyone who’s supported me to get back on the pitch.”
Moses made his return in a Russian Premier League game against Akhmat Grozny at the Otkritie Bank Arena on Saturday. The match ended in a goalless draw, but Moses was pleased to have made his long-awaited return.
The 32-year-old had last played for Spartak Moscow more than half a year ago, on August 6, 2022, when he suffered a serious injury against Ural, which required surgery
