The Kano State Fire Service reported that three female passengers died and 13 others were injured when a commercial bus caught fire on Tuesday. The service’s Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement to journalists in Kano. He said the vehicle, a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number XE 222 TRN, ignited near the Government Technical College in Nassarawa Local Government Area while traveling from Ajingi LGA to Kofar Wambai.
Fire personnel and officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps quickly extinguished the blaze and rescued most of the occupants. Abdullahi noted that three women on the bus were burnt beyond recognition, naming two of them as Surayya Umar and Zeenai Babaji. The remaining 13 victims, who suffered varying degrees of injury, were taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano for treatment.
The driver, 35‑year‑old Muhammed Gali, and his conductor, 30‑year‑old Hassan Danladi, were also rescued unharmed and handed over to the police. The fire service official attributed the cause of the accident to a speed‑limit violation and a burst rear tyre, and he urged motorists to drive with caution.
