Following an assault on a match official during their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 12 encounter against Gombe United on Sunday, Remo Stars football club has been penalised by the league’s Interim Management Committee (IMC). The club was docked three points and three goals, and fined N1.25 million for various breaches of the league’s framework. Their general manager, Ekene Adams, who was identified as the attacker, has been banned from all NPFL activities for the remainder of the season.

The IMC will probe the match‑day 12 incident, which forced the game to be abandoned at halftime on Sunday and completed on Monday morning. In a jurisdiction notice signed by Davidson Owumi, Head of Operations of the NPFL, the body explained that the sanctions followed a review of the official match report. For breaching Rule B8.21—failure to adequately secure match officials before, during, and after the match—the club was fined ₦500,000 and directed to pay ₦250,000 to the official, Ukah Ndubuisi, as compensation.

For breaching Rule C.11, three points and three goals were deducted from Remo Stars’ total, and Mr Adams was banned from all NPFL activities for the rest of the season. The club must also ensure the diligent prosecution of Adams in a court of law. Additionally, the club was found to have breached Rule B13.21 for disturbances and disruptions that led to the discontinuation of the match, resulting in a further fine of ₦500,000.

In accordance with Rule C.26, Remo Stars must respond in writing within 48 hours of the notice to either accept the IMC rulings or elect to appear before a disciplinary panel. All fines are payable within seven working days.
