Armed militants thought to be members of the Biafra Nations League, BnL, have opened fire on some Cameroonian troops guilding a Brazilian vessel that broke down in Atabong East area of the region near Bakassi.

They killed one of the soldiers in the process.

Sources hinted that they had also captured a gunboat believed to belong to the Cameroonian military in Bakassi Peninsula.

These incidents happened late Wednesday before 5pm.

According to one of the sources the troops were reportedly overwhelmed and had to flee, abandoning one gunboat.

In a statement, leader of BnL, Princewill Richards denied knowledge of who the attackers were.

He however warned that the actions might indicate that the people are no longer comfortable with both Nigeria and Cameroon.
