Yakubu Uba Muhammad, the gubernatorial candidate for the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in Kano State, has defected to the Action Democratic Party (ADP) along with his running mate. In a significant shift, Uba announced that he has abandoned his gubernatorial ambitions to support Ibrahim Shaaban Sharada, the ADP candidate. This announcement was made during a visit to Sharada’s office, where Uba expressed his decision to join the ADP, accompanied by several candidates from the YPP who are contesting for positions in both the Federal House of Representatives and the state House of Assembly.

Uba revealed that he and his running mate, along with 24 out of 27 state executives and 32 out of 44 local government structures of the YPP, have collectively decided to leave the party. He cited patriotism and a desire to rescue Kano State from maladministration as key reasons for his defection and support for Sharada’s campaign. Uba emphasized the detrimental impact of seasoned politicians on the progress of Kano, particularly in critical areas such as education, the plight of pensioners, health care, decaying infrastructure, economic challenges, and the encroachment on public properties.

In response, Sharada expressed gratitude to Uba for his support and belief in the mission to save Kano. He welcomed all patriotic citizens of Kano to join their 2023 project, highlighting the openness of the ADP to new members, including those from the YPP.
