The Labour Party in Ogun State has recommended the expulsion of eight executive members, including former acting National Publicity Secretary Abayomi Arabambi, state Chairman Michael Ashade, and six others. The recommendation was announced in a press statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Tokunbo Peters, who said it stemmed from a series of alleged anti‑party activities carried out by the implicated executives.
Peters explained that the recommendation had been formally communicated to the national secretariat of the Labour Party last week. He noted that Arabambi and Ashade had recently been suspended by the executive members of their respective wards and local government areas, after which the state executive council recommended their expulsion. The statement also listed four additional members slated for expulsion: Feyisayo Michael (state secretary), Tosin Meadows (state organising secretary), Seun Ogunyemi (state auditor), and Lizzy Oliseh‑Samuel (state financial secretary).
According to Peters, the suspensions and expulsion recommendations were based on “various anti‑party activities” by Arabambi, Ashade and their cohorts, which he claimed were intended to destabilise, factionalise, and bring the party into disrepute as “sponsored agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress.” The party had previously issued several warnings and cautions, including a peace and reconciliatory meeting mediated by a senior elder statesman, urging the members to cease their anti‑party conduct. Instead, Peters said, Arabambi and his associates became more recalcitrant and belligerent, allegedly to satisfy their “paymasters” in the ruling APC.
The statement further admonished the Inter‑Party Advisory Council in Ogun State to cease any relations with Ashade and his cohort, noting that they no longer hold any executive positions within the Labour Party. When contacted for comment, Ashade described the caretaker executive council in the state as invalid and warned that his faction would soon file criminal charges against the opposing faction.
