Survivors and aggrieved families recounted their ordeals on Saturday after suspected killer‑herdsmen invaded Mgban Primary School on Friday. Bernard Shawa, the district head of Nyiev Community, said he lost two of his sons in the attack.

One of the survivors, Mnenna Orkega, described how she and her children were awakened by indiscriminate gunshots. “I and my children were already asleep, but we were woken up by gunshots that swept over here,” she said. Speaking in the Tiv language, Orkega added that she tried to escape through a window when a herdsman seized her child and killed her. She also mourned the loss of her 10‑year‑old daughter.

Bernard Shawa reiterated the community’s suffering, noting that this was not the first attack by the herdsmen. “I lost two of my sons during the attack. There was an attack on the day of the presidential election, February 25, 2023, during which 12 persons were killed,” he said. The traditional ruler appealed to state and federal governments to stop the killing of innocent people in the state.

Reports described the incident as a “black Good Friday” in the region, as suspected killer‑herdsmen stormed Mgban Primary School in Nyiev Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area, leaving scores of people dead.
