Chibunna Stanley, known on stage as Funny Bone, is both an actor and a stand‑up comedian. He told Sunday Scoop that acting is his first love, but he views it primarily as a way to add value to his brand as a comedian. “I enjoy doing stand‑up comedy as much as I enjoy being an actor. I am a trained actor who studied Theatre Arts in school. Acting was my first love, but I prefer doing stand‑up. Stand‑up comedy comes naturally to me,” he explained.
Regarding the stereotype that actors are pigeon‑holed into specific roles, the comedian said, “I don’t think actors are being pinned to particular roles. It’s also about the actors doing what they are comfortable with. Acting does not pay my bills; it is something I do for the passion. So, if I must do it, it must add value to my brand as a comedian.” He added that when he feels ready to pursue acting more seriously, he will choose roles that showcase his range, depth, and the profundity of his character. For now, he is content to do what he can, provided it enhances his brand.
Commenting on the recently concluded general elections, Funny Bone expressed optimism about Nigeria’s political future. “With what happened during the elections, I am sure that in the next four years Nigerians will positively change the political landscape of the country. I am sure those that won elections will be on their toes and get to work, because if they don’t work, they will be booted out during the next elections.”
