Five-time winner Tiger Woods, who limped through the start of a rain‑halted third round at the Masters, withdrew from the tournament due to a fitness issue, organizers said on Sunday. “Due to injury, Tiger Woods has officially withdrawn from the Masters after completing seven holes of his third round,” a statement from Augusta National read.

The tournament aims to finish the rain‑impacted third round on Sunday morning before moving on to the decisive final round. Woods is still recovering from severe leg injuries sustained in a 2021 car crash. He returned to competition at last year’s Masters, where he finished tied for 47th and described walking 72 holes on the hilly layout as a victory of sorts. Because of the weather‑forced schedule, he would have needed to play 29 holes on Sunday to complete the round.

Woods battled to make the cut on Saturday morning, contending with cold, wet conditions and occasional limping. He ultimately made the cut after the line rose to three‑over‑par 147, matching the Masters record held by Fred Couples and Gary Player with 23 consecutive cuts. He has not missed a Masters cut since 1996, when he was still an amateur.

However, his third‑round start was disastrous. Beginning on the 10th hole, Woods recorded two bogeys, followed by a double bogey on the par‑5 15th and another on the par‑3 16th, leaving him at nine over par and at the bottom of the leaderboard. His most recent prior start was a tie for 45th at the PGA event at Riviera in February.
