The Nasarawa State Police Command announced that it has arrested one of the inmates who escaped during last year’s attack on the Kuje Correctional Centre in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. In a statement released to journalists in Lafia on Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ramhan Nansel identified the escapee as Salisu Buhari, a 24‑year‑old native of Nasarawa State.

The command’s spokesperson also reported the arrest of Zubeiru Ali, who had partnered with Buhari in stealing motorcycles from residents of the Nasarawa Local Government Area. Nansel said that on April 6, 2023, at around 10 p.m., police operatives attached to the Nasarawa Division conducted a sting operation that resulted in the capture of the duo—Zubeiru Ali, 27, and Salisu Buhari, 24—for motorcycle theft in Nasarawa LGA.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were responsible for most motorcycle snatching and theft in Nasarawa LGA and its surrounding areas. During interrogation, Salisu Buhari confessed that he had escaped from Kuje Prison during the previous year’s attack, linked up with his accomplice, and subsequently engaged in criminal activities.

The PPRO warned all criminal elements to leave the state without further delay. He also noted that Commissioner of Police Maiyaki Baba has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for a thorough investigation.
