An Abuja‑bound Air Peace flight experienced a bird strike while landing on Saturday, April 8, 2023. A bird strike occurs when a bird collides with an aircraft during takeoff, landing, or while the plane is in flight.

Air Peace’s management confirmed that the aircraft, registration ES‑SAZ, had taken off from Asaba, the capital of Delta State, and landed safely in Abuja. Passengers disembarked without incident. The airline expressed empathy for customers whose flights were disrupted by the event and announced that another aircraft had been arranged to operate the affected rotation, covering Abuja‑Asaba, Asaba‑Lagos, and other scheduled services.

The statement read: “This is to inform the flying public and our esteemed customers that our Asaba‑Abuja flight P47866 had a bird strike upon landing in Abuja on Saturday, April 8, 2023. The aircraft, with registration number ES‑SAZ, landed safely and passengers disembarked normally. While we deeply empathise with passengers whose flights have been consequently affected by this unforeseen development, an arrangement was made for another aircraft to operate Abuja‑Asaba, Asaba‑Lagos and other flights on that rotation. Be assured of our strict compliance with established safety standards.”

Attempts to contact Tunji Oketunbi, General Manager of Public Affairs at the Nigerian Safety and Investigation Bureau, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
