The Miyeitt Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Benue State has appealed to President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to ensure that those responsible for the recent killings in the state are apprehended and brought to justice. The organization also expressed hope that the incoming state government will change the prevailing narrative.
State Secretary of MACBAN, Ibrahim Galma, made the appeal on Sunday while condemning the attacks. He noted that, despite the union’s collaborative efforts with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria and security agencies, criminal elements continue to wreak havoc in Benue. Galma said, “We condemn the attack in totality. We MACBAN are working hard, together with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria and security agencies, to restore peace and harmony in the state. Yet bad people are still causing problems and killings here and there.”
He praised the governor‑elect, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, describing him as a good person who can improve the state’s situation and narrative. Galma added that the relationship between herders and farmers must be restored to achieve harmony and coexistence. “We have full support, respect and hope for the incoming administration, though bad elements are still causing problems in the state,” he said.
MACBAN condemned the recent incidents in Otukpo and Guma LGAs, emphasizing that it does not support the killings and is committed to peace. The association pledged maximum support to the new administration to help bring peace back to Benue.
In a related development, displaced persons who survived the attack at LGEA Primary School in Ngbam, Nyiev Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, have fled the site. Some are staying with relatives, while others have moved to Ortese camp. Guma LGA Chairman Mike Uba told journalists on Sunday that the area is relatively calm due to the presence of combined security personnel, but all internally displaced persons have left the camp for fear of further attacks. “I went there this morning and saw the camp empty; when I inquired, I was told they have relocated,” he said. Uba added that all victims of the attack have been buried as directed by the governor.
