A suspect in the death of Ibadan‑based Instagram cloth vendor Adeshina Olayinka, popularly known as Khadi, is now in police custody, according to a source at the Wetland Hotel in Akobo, Ibadan. Metro reports that Olayinka died after the man she was with checked out early on Thursday morning. A receptionist called her room to confirm her safety, but she later collapsed. The suspect is being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ibadan.

Our correspondent learned that the suspect, whose name has been withheld, voluntarily presented himself at Akobo Police Station after hearing that the police needed him regarding Olayinka’s death. When the hotel was visited, the manager and supervisor were absent. A staff member, who asked not to be named, told Metro that they would not have discovered the problem until the noon checkout time if not for a power bank loaned by a receptionist. “When we realized she was still breathing, we called the police at Akobo Police Station, but unfortunately she died before reaching the hospital,” the staff member said. “We then informed the suspect, who was shocked and rushed to the hotel to turn himself in. The case has now been transferred to the state CID.”

The staff member added that the suspect was a regular customer at the hotel. “Before he turned himself in, he mentioned that the lady had complained that night of feeling weak, which is why he let her rest,” he explained. As of press time, security operatives had not yet determined the exact circumstances of her death. State Police Public Relations Officer Adewale Osifeso confirmed that an investigation is underway and promised updates as they become available.

The hotel management issued a statement expressing full cooperation with the Nigeria Police in determining the cause of death. “We regret to inform the public and our valued guests that an unfortunate incident occurred at Wetland Hotel, resulting in the death of one of our guests,” the statement read. “We are assisting the authorities in every possible way and remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and safety. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased.”
