Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s Security Council has warned that it will not tolerate religious leaders who incite division and potentially spark crises in the state. The council’s chairman and Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Ibrahim Kassim, briefed journalists after a meeting at Government House on Monday, noting that two major issues threatening the state’s relative peace were discussed.
First, the council addressed the resurgence of young armed thugs known locally as “Sara Suka,” who have been attacking innocent residents and looting property. Second, Kassim highlighted the controversy surrounding a recent Ramadan Tafsir delivered by an Islamic scholar, which generated heated reactions and counter‑preachings. He emphasized that these matters are not rooted in ideology or politics but in inciteful statements that could divide the community.
Kassim reminded that the state is emerging from a rigorous electioneering period, during which numerous security challenges have arisen. “We have been managing them, and thank God the state remains as peaceful as it has always been,” he said. “We will not allow anyone, through actions or utterances, to disrupt the peace we enjoy.” He affirmed the council’s resolve to keep Bauchi peaceful and to take all necessary measures to protect the lives and property of its citizens.
Concluding the briefing, Kassim reiterated the government’s commitment to its primary responsibility: ensuring the security of the people and their assets, and assured the press and public that the council will continue to act decisively to maintain stability in Bauchi State.
