The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ekiti State Command recently paraded 13 suspected criminals for various offences. State Public Relations Officer Tolulope Afolabi explained that six individuals were arrested in the Ekute area of the state capital for attempted murder, while seven others were detained for alleged threats to life and theft.

According to Afolabi, the six suspects—Tosin (22), Abejide (22), Adeoye (21), Oke (22), Ayeni (22) and Iremide (22)—had been on the radar of the command’s Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) since 8 March 2023. They were apprehended on Sunday in Ekute, Ado Ekiti. One victim, Omolola (23), reported that the suspects attempted to murder her, mobbed her, and stripped her naked after a misunderstanding. Afolabi said the suspects then injected pepper into her private parts, recorded the act, and posted the video on a social‑media group created by the principal suspect, Tosin, who leads the group. Preliminary CTU investigations indicate that the suspects belong to a cult group in the state capital; their initial plan was to kill the victim and dump her in a pit, but an unknown neighbour rescued her.

Afolabi also disclosed that on 8 April the CTU arrested several students suspected of belonging to the Eiye Fraternity, which had been attacking residents along Poly Road, Ado Ekiti. The arrested individuals—Adebayo (19), Aladegbemi (22), Ayedemi (18), Oyebanji (20), Abiodun (23), Taiwo (23) and another Abiodun (25)—were found with stolen goods. All are now cooperating with the command to locate other members of the confraternity.

State NSCDC Commandant John Fayemi was quoted as saying that the command has been working assiduously “to make sure Ekiti State is free from pockets of security breaches.”
