Obidients: Court denies anti-Tinubu protester, Uja’s bail request

A Zuba Magistrate Court in Abuja has denied Obiajulu Uja bail, an Ibom Air passenger arrested on Abuja-Lagos bound flight for protesting that President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not be sworn in on May 29, 2023.

On Tuesday, the ruling in the bail application filed by Uja, through his counsel, Senior Magistrate, Mohammed Abdulazeez Ismail, held that the application was premature.

Media Talk Africa had earlier reported that Lawyer to Obiajulu, Ejike Ugwu said the accused is mentally challenged.

But, the court held that the exhibits attached to the application did not say the defendant was unfit to face trial but indicated he was of unsound mind.

Senior Magistrate Ismail also held that while the constitution guarantees every person’s liberty, a court can deprive them of their freedom based on health grounds.

He then adjourned until April 20 for a report and hearing.
