Nairobi — A recent evaluation of performance for government ministries, state corporations and tertiary institutions for the financial year 2021/22 identified the Ministry of Defense as the top‑performing department. The assessment, which attracted 394 entries, placed the Ministry of Defense ahead of State House and the Ministry of Energy, which ranked second and third respectively out of a total of 20 ministries.
The award ceremony was held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, where Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale accepted the trophy on behalf of the Ministry of Defense. In his remarks, President William Ruto, Commander‑in‑Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, reminded public officers that serving the nation is a privilege that carries the responsibility of creating opportunities for the less fortunate. “We have around 700,000 people in the public service out of more than 50 million other Kenyans. It is a privilege for the few to serve in the public service, but that privilege comes with a responsibility to create opportunities for the millions who don’t have such an opportunity,” the Head of State said.
President Ruto urged public officers to ensure their work supports the government’s contractual obligations and programs promptly, using minimal resources to avoid wastefulness. The event was attended by Deputy President Hon. Rigathi Gachagua, Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, Attorney General Justin Muturi, numerous cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, representatives from development partners and other senior officials from both the government and the private sector.
