Two suspected robbers from Lagos have been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command after terrorising residents of Ijebu‑Ode, Ogun State. The suspects, identified as Muyiwa Adebola and Lukman Ogunmuyiwa, were reported to have been targeting people in Ijebu‑Ode and its environs in recent weeks, according to Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Oyeyemi.

Oyeyemi said the arrests followed a distress call received at the Igbeba divisional headquarters on 26 March 2023. A six‑man gang had invaded a new site in Imoru‑Ijebu, holding locals hostage and seizing belongings at gunpoint, including laptops, 32 mobile phones and a GLK Mercedes‑Benz (registration KRD 570 HM). During the robbery, Ayoola Taiwo was shot in the right knee.

The Divisional Police Officer of Igbeba, CSP Musiliu Doga, led officers to the scene, prompting the robbers to flee. In the ensuing chase, Muyiwa Adebola was apprehended in the Olisa area of Ijebu‑Ode, and one of the stolen phones was recovered from him. During interrogation, Adebola disclosed that the gang operated from Lagos State and directed detectives to the Mushin area, where Lukman Ogunmuyiwa was subsequently arrested and also confessed to the crime.

To date, investigators have recovered three HP laptops and three phones belonging to the victims from the two suspects. The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation, on the order of the outgoing Commissioner of Police, AIG Frank Mba.
