Lobi Stars kept their grip on the top spot in Group B of the abridged 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League after a tense 3‑2 victory over ten‑man Rivers United in a rescheduled match‑day 11 fixture in Jos on Wednesday, Sports Extra reports.

The first half remained goalless, but it ended with Rivers United goalkeeper Victor Sochima being sent off. In the second half, five goals were scored as the defending champions fought back until the final minutes. Farouk Mohammed gave Rivers United the lead with a free‑kick in the 63rd minute, but Lobi Stars responded almost immediately when Abba Umar equalised, netting his sixth goal of the season.

With four minutes left before stoppage time, the drama continued: Wasiu Alalade put Lobi Stars ahead for the first time in the match, only for Nyima Nwagua to level for the visitors in the 90th minute. Elijah Ani then sealed the win for Lobi Stars with a header in added time.

Lobi Stars now sit comfortably atop the Group B table with 26 points from 13 games, while Rivers United, who have a game in hand, remain second with 20 points from 12 matches.
