Cristiano Ronaldo’s new club, Al Nassr, announced on Thursday that it has mutually terminated its contract with French coach Rudi Garcia. In a statement posted on the club’s English‑language Twitter feed, Al Nassr said, “Al Nassr can announce that head coach Rudi Garcia has left the club by mutual agreement.” The club added that the board and everyone at Al Nassr would like to thank Garcia and his staff for their dedicated work over the past eight months.
Garcia, 59, was appointed head coach in July of last year. During his tenure, Al Nassr rose to second place in the Saudi league, three points behind leaders Al Ittihad. Prior to joining Al Nassr, Garcia managed Lille, Marseille and Lyon in France and spent two and a half years in charge of Roma in Italy.
Ronaldo, now 38, signed for the Riyadh‑based side in December on a contract that runs until June 2025 and is believed to be worth more than €400 million ($442 million), according to sources close to Al Nassr. He has already scored 11 goals in 12 games for the club.
