The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed three senior officers for misuse of firearms, abuse of power, gross indiscipline, and wastage of live ammunition. The officers—Inspector Dahiru Shuaibu, Sergeant Abdullahi Badamasi, and Sergeant Isah Danladi—had been attached to a Kano musician on escort duties when they were caught on video firing live rounds into the air on Friday, April 7.

The Force’s Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced the dismissals in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Thursday. He explained that, following complaints and the widespread circulation of the video on social media, an orderly‑room trial was conducted by the Force Provost Marshal. The three policemen from the Special Protection Unit (SPU), Base 1, Kano, were found guilty of discreditable conduct, specifically the misuse of firearms, abuse of power, gross indiscipline, and wastage of live ammunition.

Adejobi detailed that the incident occurred at Kahutu Village in Katsina State while the officers were on duty. Despite police policy, standard operating procedures, and relevant Force orders prohibiting firing into the air, they repeatedly discharged their official weapons, endangering the crowd, which included children. He described the act as criminal, unprofessional, and embarrassing to both the Force and the nation.

The NPF has warned all officers to perform their duties in accordance with existing laws to avoid violations and the resulting sanctions. Supervising officers have also been instructed to provide continuous, detailed briefings to ensure their personnel are fully familiar with all necessary standard operating procedures.
