The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Olakunle Oluomo, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, the winner of the Ifo 1 constituency election on Saturday. Returning Officer Prof. Richard Shobayo announced that Oluomo secured 7,546 votes, defeating his main rival, Yusuf Ogundele of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 6,596 votes. Shobayo noted that 18,378 voters were accredited, out of a total of 95,448 registered voters.
The original election for Ifo 1, held on 18 March 2023, was declared inconclusive due to over‑voting. A supplementary poll was conducted on Saturday at Polling Unit 4, Ward 1, Ifo 1. In that supplementary election, the PDP obtained 185 votes while the All Progressives Congress (APC) garnered 167 votes. Adding the supplementary results to the initial tally, the APC candidate, who had led the first round by 969 votes, increased his total to 7,546, surpassing the PDP’s combined 6,596 votes. The Action Democratic Congress (ADC) received a single vote in the supplementary poll, bringing its overall total to 3,208 votes, placing it third.
Reacting to the outcome, Speaker Oluomo credited his victory to God and the people of Ifo, describing the contest as a hard‑fought battle. He promised greater dividends of democracy and urged his opponents to set aside their differences and work together for the development of the constituency.
