Kano rerun: INEC declares NNPP’s MB Shehu winner of Fagge Federal Constituency election

The candidate of New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Mohammed Bello Shehu has been declared winner of the Fagge Federal House of Representatives of Kano state.

Mr Shehu defeated the serving member House of Representatives, Aminu Sulaiman Goro of the All Progressive Congress, APC, ending his 12 years reign in the Green Chamber.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Shehu was leading with over 18,000 votes in the February 25 election before it was declared inconclusive by INEC due to cancellation of some polling units over violence.

Announcing the results of the rerun on Saturday, the Returning Officer, Ibrahim Suraj, said Mr Shehu got 19, 024 votes, followed by the candidate of the Labour Party, Shuaibu Abubakar,  who polled 12,789 votes of the total votes cast.

Mr Suraj also announced that Aminu Sulaiman Goro of the APC came third with 8,669 votes.

“That Barrister M.B. Shehu of the NNPP, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is declared winner of the election,” the Returning Officer announced.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that at today’s supplementary poll, the NNPP led with 609 votes in the supplementary election, while APC came second with 268 votes, followed by LP with 60 votes.

However, when the result was summed up with the previous February 25 election result, the NNPP came first, followed by LP, and then APC.
