The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Tolulope Akande‑Sadipe, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, the winner of the Oluyole Federal Constituency election in Oyo State. Olaniyi Babayemi, the Returning Officer for the constituency, announced the result on Saturday, confirming that Akande‑Sadipe secured 14,891 votes, defeating her main rival, Mogbonjubola Mojeed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 13,073 votes.
INEC had scheduled a rerun election for April 15 in certain polling units within Oluyole and the Ibadan South East/North East federal constituencies due to reported irregularities that prevented the declaration of winners in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections. Babayemi made the announcement at the INEC local government collation centre, stating, “The candidate of APC, Akande‑Sadipe, having polled 14,891 votes, is hereby declared winner of today’s supplementary election.”
In her victory speech, Akande‑Sadipe dedicated the win to her late mother, Abiose Akande, as well as to her husband, family, APC leaders, and the constituents of Oluyole. She expressed gratitude, saying, “Today I dedicate this victory to God Almighty, my late mother, my husband and my family who have sacrificed a lot to allow me to do this. I dedicate this to all leaders of the APC, who have stood by me and all members of my constituency.”
Akande‑Sadipe reaffirmed her commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to her constituency, pledging renewed service. “Serving as a House of Representatives member in the administration of President‑elect Bola Tinubu means good tidings for my constituency,” she said. “This victory seemed impossible after the first election and the loss of my mother. As I have been re‑elected to serve you in Abuja, I will do my very best to advance our cause in the House and ensure that the opportunities and benefits of democracy reach my constituency.”
