Four people have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command after the corpse of 86‑year‑old Joel Omiran disappeared from the Sacred Heart Hospital mortuary in Lantoro, Abeokuta, the state capital. The octogenarian died a month ago at the hospital, where he had been rushed for treatment. According to a source, his family placed the body in the mortuary shortly after his death. Three weeks later, the children inspected the corpse and found it intact, then informed the hospital management of their intention to retrieve it for burial. However, when they arrived at the mortuary after paying the required fees, the body was missing. “Every effort to get the body proved abortive,” the source said.

Our correspondent learned that the four arrested individuals are two mortuary attendants, an auditor and a plumber. State Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrests, stating, “We are aware that the body of Joel Omiran was missing from the Sacred Heart Hospital mortuary. We have commenced an investigation, and the State CID, Eleweran, has taken over the case.” He added that the plumber was detained because, a few days before the incident, he assisted the attendants in breaking the mortuary door after the keys were misplaced. The arrests were made on Thursday.
