The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Rodney Ambaiowei of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the Southern‑Jaw Federal Constituency supplementary election in Bayelsa State on Sunday. According to the returning officer, Prof. Christopher Onyema, Ambaiowei received 13,992 votes, defeating the incumbent House of Representatives member, Preye Oseke of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 12,992 votes.
In a separate contest, INEC announced that the APC candidate, Godknows Obein, won the Ogbia Constituency 2 supplementary election for the Bayelsa House of Assembly. Returning Officer Prof. Johnson Ohakwe reported that Obein secured 5,291 votes, surpassing the incumbent PDP legislator, Munalayefa Gibson, who obtained 4,342 votes.
With these results, the PDP will hold 17 seats in the seventh Bayelsa House of Assembly, the APC will have five seats, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will occupy two seats. (NAN)
