Former Minister of Information Alhaji Ikra Bilbis of the Peoples Democratic Party has been declared the winner of the Zamfara Central Senatorial zone supplementary election held last Saturday. Bilbis secured 102,866 votes, defeating his closest rival, Kabiru Garba Marafa of the All Progressive Congress, who garnered 91,216 votes. The returning officer for the zone, Professor Kabiru Abdullahi, announced the result, stating that Bilbis satisfied all legal requirements. “I, Professor Kabiru Abdullahi, hereby certify that I am the returning officer for the 2023 Zamfara Central Senatorial District election held on April 15, 2023. Aliyu Ikra Bilbis of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and is returned elected,” he said.
In addition, PDP candidates won the supplementary elections for the House of Representatives in the Gusau/Tsafe and Gummi/Bukkuyum federal constituencies. In Gusau/Tsafe, Kabiru Amadu Maipalace of the PDP obtained 63,589 votes, defeating former State House of Assembly Speaker Sanusi Garba Rikiji of the APC, who received 52,495 votes. In the Gummi/Bukkuyum constituency, Engineer Suleiman Abubakar Gummi of the PDP secured 35,664 votes, narrowly beating APC candidate Ahmed Mohammed, who garnered 35,058 votes.
