A 70‑year‑old man named Apollos Danlami was killed in a communal clash that erupted over the coronation of a hamlet head in Sang village, Bogoro Local Government Area, Bauchi State. The incident occurred on Saturday at about 7:00 p.m., injuring scores of people, including a 65‑year‑old resident. In the violence, 64 houses, three motorcycles and property worth millions of naira were set ablaze.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident on Sunday afternoon through a statement issued by Public Relations Officer Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakil. Titled “CP orders for a full‑scale investigation, cautions against any knee‑jerk reactions to the disturbance of public peace in Bogoro,” the statement detailed the police response. Upon receiving the distress call, tactical teams, the Rapid Response Squad and Operation Restore Peace were deployed to restore order.
Commissioner of Police Aminu Alhassan ordered an immediate investigation to determine the underlying causes of the crisis. The police spokesman reported that relative peace has since returned and appealed for calm among residents. He explained that the clash stemmed from protests by irate youths against the coronation of the Hamlet Head of Sang, which escalated into attacks on innocent citizens and the arson of homes and motorcycles.
The command has reinforced security measures in and around Bogoro LGA, emphasizing the safety of citizens as a top priority. Ongoing visibility patrols aim to maintain public peace, while the DPO Bogoro has been instructed to conduct a discreet, thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the turmoil. Efforts to arrest those responsible are being intensified, and further developments will be communicated as the investigation unfolds.
