Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze may be involved in a blockbuster move to the Santiago Bernabéu this summer if Real Madrid agrees to meet Villarreal’s €80 million asking price for the winger, Sports Extra reports. Los Blancos president Florentino Pérez has been impressed with the 23‑year‑old’s performances this season, and there has been speculation about Madrid’s interest in signing the Nigerian for the 2023/24 campaign.
Chukwueze delivered a masterclass at the Bernabéu last weekend, condemning the Spanish giants to their fifth defeat of the season. He scored a brace and was involved in the build‑up to the third goal, earning the Man of the Match award – his second of the season. His importance to Villarreal is evident: he has started the last 20 games and is currently the team’s most in‑form player in the absence of Gerard Moreno, whose season has been blighted by injuries.
The 23‑year‑old has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions this season, making him one of only five players in La Liga to reach double figures for both goals and assists since 2022. OptaJose, the world leader in sports data, revealed on its official Twitter account that only Vinícius Júnior has a better goal contribution from solo efforts than Chukwueze. With four goals and eight assists, Chukwueze ranks ahead of Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé, who has three goals and five assists from solo actions.
Under Quique Setién, the Nigerian has grown significantly, and his improvement could earn him a move to Madrid should the Whites agree to meet his club’s asking price. According to the Spanish transfer‑market website Fichajes, Villarreal has informed Real Madrid and other interested clubs that they must meet Chukwueze’s release clause of €80 million. “Villarreal have been blunt with the starting price of Chukwueze, clinging to the player’s termination clause, which amounts to no more and no less than €80 million. This means any team interested in signing him will have to pay that amount to secure his services, including Real Madrid, which has not yet made a formal offer,” the website wrote.
